Production time! Let’s dive in.
Make: Time to Head Off to Production 🏭
Make is the third step of the supply chain process. In other words, this section is the manifesting or the making of the product stage. We already discussed that company supply chain’s need to plan for their supply and demand, then source material from suppliers, but where do the materials go? Materials are sent to manufacturing sites where the products are designed, produced, tested, packaged, then sent out for delivery! It is at this stage in the supply chain where the finalized product is made based on the customer demand.
Commonly Used Terms in Making
Now you might be thinking, “ Okay, this makes sense to me but what are some industry terms I can use?”
Lean Six Sigma: Improving performance by eliminating waste and defects within operations
Safety Stock: Extra inventory produced to mitigate the risk of stock outs and demand fluctuations
Bottleneck: The resource that requires the longest time in operations of the supply chain for certain demand
Factory Mix-Up Ruins Up to 15 Million Vaccine Doses From Johnson & Johnson 😱🤯
A manufacturing partner accidentally mixed ingredients from both Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccines, contaminating up to 15 million of J&J’s doses. J&J’s one dose vaccine is meant to speed up the national immunization program compared to Pfizer and Moderna’s two dose vaccines. The mistake has delayed future shipments of J&J’s vaccine as the FDA is investigating the quality problem at the plant. None of the contaminated doses left the plant, so it does not affect any doses that have been delivered and used nationwide. However, J&J will have difficulties delivering its goal of 24 million vaccines by the end of April with this major delay.
🐝Buzzword🐝:
